I am back after a long break and believe me its delight to be back. Today I am going to talk about the advice I normally give to my clients for various common ailments and have seen great improvement in the symptoms.

Rather than popping medicines I always advocate natural treatments. But certainly there are conditions when one need to depend on medication.

Acidity and gas –

    • Boil equal quantities of fennel and mint leaves in a glass of water and reduce it to half. Drink this herbal infusion post your meal to boost digestion.
    • Drinking a glass of lemon juice before meals also improves digestion and relieves acidity and gas.
    • Adding asafoetida (hing) to the dishes will also benefit you.
      • Chew 8- 10 leaves of tulsi (basil leaves) to get immediate relief from gas and acidity.

Digestive system acts as a nucleus for good health. For better absorption of nutrients, soaring energy and radiant skin one need a competent digestive system and constipation can really hamper this up.

In majority of the cases low fibre and fluid intake contributes to constipation, so!!!

My first recommendation is always about water.

    • Drink 3-4 litres of water throughout the day.
    • Include 5-6 serving of vegetables and fruits in your diet for fibre.
      • Soak 2-3 dried figs over night and eat it, next morning with a glass of water. Prunes are great alternatives for figs so if you don’t like the taste of figs than opt for 3-4 prunes. You can add them to your salad or shakes.

    • Drinking 30 ml of aloe Vera juice along with water, first thing in the morning is also beneficial. Aloe is very soothing for the digestive system and also has mild laxative effect.
    • Consuming 1- 2 tsp of triphala power with Luke warm water at night will make you fresh in the morning easily.
    • One can also include psyllium husk (isabgol) in the diet as it is a safe natural laxative. Consume 1-2 tsp of psyllium husk and make sure to drink plenty of water along with it else it will make the condition worse.

What Causes Water Retention and Bloating
If you got up with swollen face and rings stuck up in your fingers than you must be having water retention problem. In female to have some water retention before menstrual cycle is normal. People suffering from hypothyroidism are more to have water retention which leads to fluctuations in weight

    • Drink water. Yes you heard me right!!! Often people reduce their water thinking that this will reduce their water retention where as the truth is that this will make condition worse. So next time you feel blotted don’t forget to sip water.
    •  Reduce salt intake, if possible go for salt free dinner for 1-2 days for immediate relief.
    • Increasing potassium intake helps in flushing excess of water out of the body. So grab a banana, handful cherries, 2-3 slices of watermelon, or citrus fruits to beat water retention.
    • Make sure to drink coconut water.
    • Celery is an excellent diuretic food, so make a yummy soup of celery, cabbage and capsicum or add to your vegetable juice (lettuce tomato celery and fennel).
    • Soak 1 tsp of ajwain seeds or coriander seeds overnight and drink the water in the morning.
    • Dandelion tea is also very effective against water retention.
